Two Girls Crazy Quilting!

This weekend we had 2 young ladies visiting us and we stopped by the thrift store, and soon an idea to have "matching pillows" came up and I threw out the idea of reclaiming fabrics from clothes to cover the pillows and off we went! They collected some flannel and cotton PJ bottoms and a sheet and a dinosaur print curtain...yes dino print...don't ask me it was their idea! LOL
Amanda & Stephanie
It was so fun! Here is a photo of the girls with their finished pillows!
Steph being silly using the waist band of some reclaimed flannel pants as a head band! Neither of the girls had ever thought of using old clothes for fabric before but LOVED it! After washing and drying everything I showed them how to cut out the seams of the clothes.
Then I showed them how to crazy piece!
Neither girl had ever used a sewing machine before, but they caught on pretty quickly.
Stephanie was scared to use it at first but after helping her and getting her to do the seams she now says it's easy. And yes she is wearing a pant seam "hat" on her head! LOL Also note the matching dino print seam bracelets tied around their wrists!!! LOL
Here is Amanda sewing I only had to show her a couple times and she was off and piecing on her own!
Finally we got to the end where you hand sew the opening closed! Steph thought it would take 5 HOURS, but I reassured her that if she just did it, it really wouldn't take that long. Upon completion she was happy to say that it really didn't take that long! LOL I just had them do a whip stitch to close it and made sure they knew to keep the stitches close together or they would get a gaping hole.
Here is Amanda whip stitching hers closed, both girls did a wonderful job hand sewing the opening!

Total cost to make both pillows...$2.25
Hours of fun, spending time together and learning new things...Priceless!

Melissa, I am glad Amanda was enjoying her icy pop. LOL
How wonderful to show the girls how to create something low budget and beautiful. I imagine they are thinking up another project to work on.

Thanks for the comment on the shuttle ring. I did read about the shoelace trick and it all makes sense. So far I think needle tatting is a little easier, especially the picots. Then again that's all I tried so far rings, rings and more rings and a picot or two. LOL I guess with practice it will get easier. I am glad my mom gave me a some of her end of the ball #10 crochet thread to practice with.
