Button Cover Contest

Hi All! In one of my SRE groups I'm in a button cover contest and I can make up to 3 buttons to enter. Here is my first button (2 inches diameter) I've made but I was wondering if it's any good. It's supposed to be a Peony Rose but I think it looks more like a water lily or a lotus blossom! The members of the group are the ones who will be voting on who wins the contest. Should I enter this one or try again?

This flower, whatever you want to call it, is Gorgeous!! Of course you should enter it in the contest. Also, if you don't tell them what kind of flower it's supposed to be, then who but you will know? Embroidery is about interpretation of what we see, not exact duplication. It does look a lot like a peony to me. Either way, you did a great job.

Melissa, this button is beautiful. How big is it?? And, how long does it take you to do that?? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just amazed at your ribbon embroidery. I love the textures it creates... And, I agree, you should enter it. You know, I've made a handful of beaded buttons, and one of my friends told me I should try making a beaded button-cover....hmmm....

I second that Janet! It definately looks like a rose to me. Enter it... You won't be sorry. I for one, would love to have a button like this or to be able to make one. I have the little button making kit (found it at a thrift shop) and plan to try it someday in the future. I thought I'd try a photo motif first. Then the SRE... Keep up the great work Melissa! Brenda Minor ps love the hummingbirds!!

I agree, this is a work of art. And will they really wonder what flower it is anyway? It's really exquisite and I love the delicate leaves too.
